South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering
(DSME) has been awarded a KRW631.5 billion (USD558 million) contract for
the construction of two more Daegu (FFX-II)-class guided-missile
frigates for the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN), the company announced on
14 November.
The 122 m-long frigates, which are now the fifth and sixth of the
class on order for the service, are expected to be delivered to the RoKN
by 2022, according to DSME.
The announcement comes after first-of-class
Daegu
(with pennant number 818) was handed over to the navy on 1 February in a
ceremony held at the company's Okpo shipyard on Geoje Island.
